Alabama State lands forward Isaiah Barganier in the transfer portal

Redshirt junior forward Isaiah Barganier has officially committed to Alabama State Hornets men’s basketball, giving the program a physical frontcourt addition out of the transfer portal.

  • Background: Fulshear, Texas product with a strong rebounding profile dating back to high school  

He was a decorated player coming out of Fulshear High School ( Fulshear,Texas) where he became only the second player in program history to tally over 1,000 points. He was a four-time All-District selection and averaged 16.3 points, 12.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.9 blocks per game as a junior, including a 32 point, 21 rebound, 7 assists performance. He also recorded a 22 rebound effort and six games of 20 points or more. Barganier was ranked 25th on the Texas Top 100, 38th on the Prep Hoops Texas Top 100 and 72nd on the RIVALS Texas Top 100. 

He spent his first three seasons at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley , appaering in 40 games for the Vaqueros. Last season he played at Texas State, appearing in just 5 games for the Bobcats. 

Barganier has been scouted as a player with “elite rebounding pedigree.” He brings a physical element , grit and a high motor and can be a difference maker , albeit his collegiate production has been limited to this point in his college career. 

This move looks like a depth-and-toughness pickup for Alabama State—Barganier brings size and physicality, even if his college production has been limited so far.
